Uncle Heber was a great man. We feel honored to have known him for the few shorts years that we did. We were introduced to He and Margaret when we first moved back to St. George. Chris' brother Jeff cared deeply for Heber and Margaret and contacted them often. As soon as we moved back to St. George Jeff put us into contact with them as well, especially because we were local for Heber and Margaret. When we first met them, they instantly adored Nate, especially because he was a VERY busy one year old. We visited them on occassion, then Margaret became ill and passed away. Uncle Heber took it very hard. He definitely needed some company, and that's when Chris stepped in. As a family we would visit Heber, but on lunch breaks Chris would often stop by to check on him, along with at least one evening a week visit for the family. During the last several months, Chris went to visit him nearly every day. The man was lonely and Chris was a beacon of light for him. Chris was his contact for any needs and Chris was happy to be there for him. They definitely had a special bond that could not be broken and nothing could interfere with. Chris is a special person with a special heart and I know Uncle Heber will attest for that. Because of Jeff, Chris had a great relationship with Heber and because of Chris, Nate, Bryn and I did too. It was good for our kids to visit and see Uncle Heber on Sundays and the other elderly people in his facility. They definitely developed love and respect for the elderly, and for that I am indeed grateful. Chris was honored to be a speaker at Uncle Heber's funeral. It was tough for him. It's never easy to speak at a funeral, especially about someone so dear to your heart. Chris did an outstanding job and his brother said that he wants Chris to speak at his funeral - talk about an honor! The Lord knows our hearts very well and I am glad Chris understood that as well. The Lord definitely knew where Uncle Heber's heart was and it was time to call him home. We know he had a joyous reunion with Margaret and his son John who passed before. He lived an incredible 94 years. He will be remembered for many many years to come. He left behind a firm legacy of love that I hope to pass on to my family. Like Chris said in his talk, he always prioritized Chris and his family by always asking first how everything was and how the wife and kids were. He had concern for others way above himself. He always had time for one last hug and hand shake. You never left his place without both! and you always knew he loved you as he frequently said, 'I love you.' Uncle Heber we will miss you forever and look forward to seeing you again! and like Little Nate said, "Mom, it's okay that Uncle Heber died, he'll get resurrected." and "we can all see him again."
